DC to DC Converters & Chargers
Orion-Tr DC to DC converters accept one DC voltage and output another. Often used to convert from 12V to, say 24V, or the reverse.
These converters can also be used to "convert" to the same voltage, say 12V to 12V. This is very useful for providing a stable output voltage (perhaps to marine electronics) while the input voltage may be noisy, or fluctuate.
Orion-Tr"Smart" DC to DC chargers are even more powerful. Instead of just outputing one constant voltage, they output a full multi-stage charging profile for batteries of the specified output voltage.

Can I use a DC to DC Converter to charge one battery bank from another?
Yes, use the Orion-Tr “Smart” (or Orion-XS) line of DC to DC Chargers for this application.
These devices are ideal for providing multi-stage charging output to intelligently charge one battery bank from another.
Additionally, the Orion-Tr Smart (or Orion-XS) can be configured to allow the bank #1 and bank #2 to have different chemistries (ie. flooded vs agm).
Can I use a DC to DC Converter to provide clean power to a sensitive load?
Yes, this is an ideal use for an Orion DC to DC Converter. These devices can provide clean, stable output power to load devices (such as navigation equipment), even when the input voltage is not ideal due to circumstances such as low voltage or noise.
Can I use a DC to DC Converter to convert from one voltage to another?
Yes, this is another ideal use for an Orion DC to DC Converter or Charger. For example, powering a 12VDC device from a 24VDC battery bank.
What is the difference between Orion-Tr, Orion-Tr Smart, and Orion-XS?
- Orion-Tr devices are simply voltage converters, providing clean stable output at the rated voltage
- Orion-Tr Smart devices are intelligent bank-to-bank battery chargers, which can also offer voltage conversion
- Orion-XS are essentially the same as Orion-Tr Smart devices, however they offer the largest available output current rating (50A)
What are Isolated vs Non-Isolated DC to DC devices?
Orion devices can be Isolated or Non-Isolated. An Isolated device introduces an internal isolator between the input and output negatives. This is very important if the Orion is connected to two separate battery banks that do not have common grounding connections.
Orion Isolated devices also have the benefit of filtering noise & interference, and helping to protect from input voltage spikes and fluctuations.
A Non-Isolated Orion can be used when both input and output battery banks share a common ground.
